It is very beautiful to summit during the full moon. This will illuminate the landscape even without using the headlight. Most of the time the summit is above the clouds, but it cannot be guaranteed of course. Full moon treks are more popular. During the busiest months, you may opt to change your summit day to a day or two before or after the full moon for a less busy experience while enjoying the same experience of a moonlit trek to the summit.
Would you rather experience the best viewing of the stars and planets? Then a new moon on summit night is ideal.
How do you plan a summit according to the moon phase?
This is the question that has been asked by many. If you are taking a 6-day climb, you must start 4 days before the full moon. For a 7-day climb, you must start 5 days early and for an 8-day climb, you must start 6 days early in order to summit during the full moon. Be advised though that you still need a headlamp with you in case the skies are overcast that night.
