Cancellation and Refund Policy

We understand that booking a Tanzania trip and sending money to Africa may seem risky. You may have questions like what will happen if travel restrictions are put in place, what if my flight is cancelled and I miss the expedition dates? What if I catch COVID-19 and am not able to travel? We have answers for all of these questions. All tours by Popote are financially risk-free for our customers.

Your options if you need to cancel a Kilimanjaro climb

If you book your Kilimanjaro adventure with Popote, and for some reason are unable to travel, the following options are available:

You may freely change the dates of your Kilimanjaro trek. If you have an unfortunate hold-up to your travel plans, you may reschedule your climbing dates for another time. The exception here is if you decide to reschedule your climb in less than 24 hours before the scheduled departure time. With such short notice we would have organized supplies for the trip and paid park entry fees..

Getting a refund. We have never frozen any payment ever paid to us, and if you decide to cancel your adventure, we will be able to provide you with a refund.

Some of our clients told us that they got sick with coronavirus and asked for a refund, which we readily provided. Please note: being sick or having other valid reasons for cancellation is not necessary – we will return your deposit under any circumstances. The only thing required is an email to confirm cancellation.

Please note: The reservation deposit for Kilimanjaro treks is refundable (minus any bank transfer charges) up to 7 days before the scheduled start date.

If you decide to pay the price for your Kilimanjaro adventure in full before arriving in Tanzania for security or other reasons, it is fully refundable 7 days before scheduled start date. Within 7 days of start date, we will refund after accounting for the park fees and hotel cancellation charges that we might have to pay.

Your options if you need to cancel a safari

If you book your safari with Popote, and would like to cancel for any reason, following are the cancellation terms for the 30% reservation deposit:

  • Up to 30 days before start date – deposit paid is not refundable. This is because the deposit is used to reserve rooms at the safari lodges. These hotels have strict cancellation policies in place.
  • More than 30 days before start date – deposit paid is fully refundable minus any bank transfer charges.
